Program Options, Requirements

The undergraduate degree program in mathematics at Illinois State University meets curricular guidelines of national mathematics organizations. The mathematics major requires the following courses, including 42 semester hours in mathematics.

• Calculus I, II, and III
• Elementary Linear Algebra
• Computer Programming
• English Writing II
• Elementary Real Analysis
• Discrete Mathematics
• Mathematical Statistics
• Three to five upper-level mathematics courses.

Students majoring in mathematics may enhance their employability by choosing to double major or to minor in a related field. Some students combine mathematics with actuarial science, applied computer science, business and economics, or statistics. A mathematics major complements many other fields and can be structured to prepare students for graduate study.
